What dreams are made of

What dreams are made of

You had to know that my coffee cup would be Red!

Warning – this is not the usual Defiant Wellness fare. But I was so amused by the way my morning began, and by the fact that my writing is affecting readers, I had to share this true story.

At nine o’clock this morning, my friend Angela excitedly ran into my office and grabbed a seat. Her eyes sparkled and she had a broad smile as she eagerly leaned forward and blurted, “You were in my dream last night. It was so realistic, I have to tell you all about it!”

What old man wouldn’t be thrilled to have a lovely woman, half his age, start his day by saying he was in her dreams?

She proceeded to share vivid details of this dream that were somewhat amusing. It was a blend of the surreal and a clear knowledge of what is dear to me. She described us being in a European city, she thought it might be Amsterdam, or even Paris. She was on a street filled with stone and brick shopfronts. She walked along the sidewalk looking into all the windows, aware that most of the establishments were coffee shops.

She peered in the window of this one special shop where she saw me drinking coffee. As she entered the cafe, she noticed that while I consumed my coffee, I was writing my blog. But I wasn’t just writing, I was performing my blog. It was a theatrical presentation of my blog. All the people in the shop cheered and applauded me for my blog performance. One gentleman took out his checkbook and wrote out a check for $1,700, commenting that I deserved it because it was the most amazing blog he had ever seen. Then others started handing me checks and cash.

After I finished my coffee, we strolled down the street, we passed under the bridge and arrived at our office to begin the workday.

I will admit, this is not quite the dream I was hoping I’d hear. However, as I am in the final throes of my career, looking towards retirement, it is encouraging to foresee that my writing will be able to sustain me into old age.

Angela's alarm went off too soon, so I don't know how the story ended. Maybe tomorrow?
