I do not usually go to CrossFit classes on Saturday. But today I made an exception and I did my first Partner WOD. I was blessed to be teamed up with the effervescent Southern Belle, tennis star, and Boston College sensation, Diana.
The WOD consisted of 3 Power Cleans, 5 Box Jumps, 7 Push-ups. It was a twenty minute AMRAP. One person starts, goes through the rotation for one minute, while the other person keeps score. On the minute, the second person jumps in and picks up where the first one ended, and the first one gets to rest a minute until it all starts again.
This was the fastest 20 minute WOD I have ever done. It flew by and it was a lot of fun. Diana and I were well matched on all three movements. She jumped the box, while I did step ups. Overall we both carried our share of the load for the whole time and we kept a brisk pace.
The Mobility WOD before the workout was a fantastic prelude for push-ups. I have never been able to perform them as well as I did today during the workout. In ten seconds I was down on the floor, knocking out 7 push-ups and back on my feet. It was amazing how this Mobility time provided immediate payback in performance.
So what do you get when you match up a 19 year-old athlete with a 62 year-old man? Twenty-Seven Rounds!! We did great and we had a blast doing it. Thanks Di, I had a great time.
I then stuck around for Open Gym and worked on improving my form on Back Squats. I went home and took care of a few things around the house. About 2:00 I took a shower, got dressed and sat down for a minute.
An hour later Suzanne came home and found me asleep in my chair. She asked me what happened to me, she said I seemed wiped out. I told her that’s what happens when an old man tries to impress a nineteen year-old college girl. I can hear her laughing in the kitchen as she getting my heating pad.
Hey Nineteen
That’s ‘Retha Franklin
She don’t remember the Queen of Soul
It’s hard times befallen
The sole survivors
She thinks I’m crazy
But I’m just growing old
