CrossFit Open 13.3 Announcement

CrossFit Open 13.3 Announcement

By Chuck · 1 Comment ·

Have you seen what they have planned for us this week? We seem to be going from Ugly to Uglier.

It is Wednesday, besides posting photos of my food, all that has been on my mind has been CrossFit Open 13.3. What can it be? At the time this draft is being initiated, no one knows. But by the time I hit “Publish” at about 9:00 this evening we will all be moaning.

Am I the only fool in the Box who is obsessing about this? I eagerly anticipate the Wednesday evening announcement. Then I marvel at the athletes who perform after the announcement. Then I go to bed, but I can’t sleep because I am anxious about Thursday’s workout.

But that’s not all; if I screw up on Thursday, then I obsess about it for the rest of the day. Friday I play the tapes in my head and try to tweak my goat(s) hoping to get another shot at it on Saturday or Sunday. Then after a weekend repeat performance, I hope I improve and post my score on Sunday evening. Then this cycle starts all over again.

On the upside, after Thursday’s WOD, we are more than halfway through the series.

Now it is 8:00 PM and the announcement is…

WORKOUT 13.3

90 Double-unders
30 Muscle-ups

MASTERS WOMEN – includes Masters Women 55+

When Dave Castro made the announcement I wanted to scream. I hate MetCons, I hate ’em!! I recognized the first movement as Karen, and I hate Karen. The last time I met Karen I could barely walk the next day, my chest and shoulders throbbed with pain for two days. Second, I have just begun to jump singles with a reasonable degree of confidence, but not a single Double-Under. And at this time in my CrossFit career, Muscle-ups are as elusive as World Peace.

So I sat on the couch, stunned. Figuring the Double-Unders and Muscle-ups would just destroy me. Then it occurred to me to check my WOD Journal. On February 21st, one month ago, to the day, I did Karen in 14:17 scaled with a 14# ball and a 9-foot target. So I am confident that DU’s and MU’s will not be an issue on Thursday morning.

Since I got burned in 13.1 by not being aware of the Master’s weight difference, I immediately checked. Whoop-di-Doo, the only difference between Men’s and Masters is 1 foot of height in the target. The ball weight, 20# is the same, DU same, MU same. I think Dave Castro is trying to kill off all the old men in the games.

What is my prediction for my performance? I have a heavier ball and a shorter time constraint. I expect a fair number of No Reps, so I am going to have to trade slower performance for any wasted energy with a short toss. My previous score averaged about 11 tosses per minute. Considering the heavier ball and the potential for no reps, I am guessing 9 tosses per minute. So my target is set at 110.

Have I mentioned I hate MetCons?
